Corporate Team Building Events

eam building has become somewhat of a buzz word in corporate circles over the past few years. Many corporate event planners toss the term ‘corporate team building’ around willy-nilly as part of their marketing talk – but their events don’t always live up to the team building promise.

For an event to actually transform and cement new ways of working together, it has to offer more than just lip service and a group trip to go fly-fishing.

Successful corporate team building events have a number of elements in common:

1 The opportunity to see the roadblocks to successful communication and teamwork
2 The chance to see coworkers in unfamiliar roles and situations
3 The necessity to work together toward a common goal
4 The support needed to forge productive new ways of working together

Good corporate event planners take those cut-and-dried concepts and turn them into a fun learning experience. The true geniuses in the corporate event world can create amazing and transforming events that will shake up your organization and wake up inspiration that you never knew existed in your company. Experienced planners of team building events know how to bring your coworkers and employees together in new ways that highlight the strengths you know they have, and show them how to use those strengths to build a solid service or production team that simply can’t be beat.

Chillisauce, a UK company that specializes in corporate events and group tours, explains that team building challenges can be beneficial in highlighting how work obstacles are overcome by working together. Among the fun team building activities that they’ve offered are a Limousine Treasure Hunt, a Spy Mission, Dragon Boat Racing and the opportunity to participate in It’s a Knockout!

Other companies plan ‘Service Days’ that may include building a children’s playground for charity or pitching in to completely renovate a home for a local charity. In any case, the value of the day is in the lessons carried home at its end – that the team can overcome anything by getting to know each other and working together – as a team with unique members.

You might think these events are shallow approaches to build your team’s morale or corporate culture, but all the contrary, most of the time these events when properly planned and delivered can help to build trust, confidence, and good climate among team members.

The key to get the most of these events is to help members of your team to identify themselves with the company and to know each other in a context other than your corporate environment. Leveraging on those two ideas is the key to a succesful corporate event.

Leaders know and value the importance of the team for the company’s success. A true leader builds and fosters team’s morale and teamwork. So, Where are you planning your next team building event?

I think any team building event or activity has to consider the company, it’s goals and it’s staff… i.e. one-size does not fit all and packages should be tailored after consultation to increase the chances of a successful and meaningful event.

This is wonderful! A good leader as demonstrated by you should have an open mind; listen to others, evaluate their contributions and act accordinly. I beleive you understand my point. Keep on keeping on!!!

yes, i appreciate the social route to team building, however the need for team building needs to be well diagnosed and the list of the participants beginning top down putting hidden role models and facilitators into the team to learn from, culminating into a project assignment for the team to apply their behavioural skills and lessons to take home learning from live experience and case studies both internal and external – not rushing the excercise and devoting all the time it needs, the CEO present there signifying the significance of the event and demonstrating his own facilatation skills while motivating the learning team.
this team needs to meet once a month or two for atleast 6 months to reinforce their learning under the expert guide to hone the competencies rather than make this excercise academically cherishing leaving members helpless back at the work place scenario – the bosses of these members need to remain present at times to share their view of their new experiences with the trained members as also take an input or two to hone their own facilitation skills and thus generate an overall learning/doing climate for strategic organisational culture and results. hope this adds some meaning here!
