Today is Friday, and looking around for a new site or resource to talk you about, I found Spencer Johnson’s “Who Moved My Cheese”. And I thought that I would be a great 3 minute leadership tip too.
This book was published in 1998, ten years ago, and I have to say, it’s one of those books that will surely stand the test of time. The reason is so simple, it talks about change, about motion, about something we all live every second of our lives, but somehow we’re not aware of:change.
The wonderful metaphor of the book linking cheese to our actual occupation or resources we do care about is so good. I you haven’t read the book I really recommend it to you. Using the methapor in the book one could say that “leaders can see if the cheese is running out and according to that, they lead their teams, organizations, to where the cheese is”.
Basically what you should do, according to Spencer Johnson is develop four skills to deal and lead in times of change. The skills are:
1. Recognize changes taking place, adapt more quickly and get better results.
2. Appreciate how others respond to change.
3. Discover a non-threatening way to talk with employees co-workers and about change.
4. Begin to use change as a means to improve competitive advantage.

LEADERSHIP ACTIONS
1. Reflect upon change, and how you face changes in your work, your family, your life.Â
2. Do you think is there’s anything you can improve to deal in a better way with change?
3. Stop thinking, and start doing whatever you think will help you to improve your way of facing changes.
