Leadership Skill – Identify Your Learning Style

Leaders, are good learners, we know that. Don’t we? Do you know what’s your learning style? Read on and find out.

There are four different “styles” of learning, and we all have a preferred (or dominant) learning style. Knowing what’s your dominant learning style can help you to improve your learning experience and get the most of out it. By the way, by saying we all have a dominant learning style doesn’t mean we can not learn in any other way, it just means you prefer one over the others.

Sensor style: Basically you rely on your feelings, values, and empathy to make conclusions. You like to interact with other people, and learn by talking it out, disscusing the information.

Assessor style: Rather than talk, you listen, and assess information. You listen and watch, and you don’t interact that much with other people. You’re not used to role playing or interaction based learning.

Thinker style: You make conclusions based on logical and rational evidence. You feel ok learning from impersonal models and systematic analysis. You don’t feel very well with unstructured or open ended exercises and discussions.

Doer style: You learn by trying and doing, you love simulations and practical examples. You like small group discussions, on the other hand, you don’t like that much lectures and passive learning.

LEADERSHIP ACTIONS

1. Think about a fantastic learning experience you had. Think about a time you felt like learning was almost a joy. What kind of learning style was that?

2. Congratulations!!, you’ve identified your preferred learning style.

The next week we’ll talk about the strenghts and weaknesses of the learning styles.

Be Alert, Be A Leader :)
