Sometimes we just don’t get it the first time. It seems some of us need to repeat our mistakes twice, and even three times before our behavior changes. I’m a very entuthiastic guy and most of the time I do a lot of talking and I love to share the latest trend or business fad with my coworkers. But sometimes It seems I do more talking than listening and that’s a huge mistake.Â
Yesterday I was lunching with a couple of coworkers and after the lunch, I thought: “Oh boy, I haven’t had a talk with these guys for a long time, and I did most of the talking”. The thing is I was so happy about something that happened to me, that I wanted to share it with almost everybody. So I wasn’t really a team player in that situation, nor a good listener. After a few moments I realized I haven’t really heard them.. I was blinded by my “good mood” or “success”.Â
When I realized that, I committed myself to talk as less as possible in lunch, and LISTEN for the rest of the week. The same for the meetings I have scheduled.Â
I’ll just follow my own advice in 9 tips to improve your listening skills
So I’m scheduling a new meeting with the guys and this time I’ll catch up, and listen to them.
I’m lucky enough to be near them to “correct” my behavior. Are you so lucky?
BOTTOM LINE, I’m being aware of my actions, I recognized my mistake, and I’m really committed to improve my behavior to make it “natural”.
Be Aware of your actions, and reflect upon them. You will learn. DO IT daily and you will improve. Guaranteed!!!
Be Aware, Be A Leader
